WordPress 2.9 Is Available For Download

If you visit WordPress.org you will notice that the classic blue download button now says “Download WordPress 2.9″. This is a major upgrade, and brings some really cool new features, including:

•Trash bin (no more problems with accidentally deleting posts or pages)

•Built-in image editor

•Batch plugin update

•Easier video integration

•rel=”canonical” tag support

•database optimization

The interesting thing is that when I logged into my WordPress dashboard a couple of minutes ago I didn’t see the message “Your WordPress version is out of date. Please upgrade!”. I am guessing that since 2.9 is not a security release they are not displaying that message to users of older versions.

Either way I am waiting a bit to upgrade. It is possible that within a couple of weeks version 2.9.1 will be released fixing some small bugs.

What about you, are you running 2.9 already? Are you liking it?

Aryans Group to start Two New Business Schools

MOHALI: Aryans Group of Institutes would be starting two new business schools namely Aryans Institute of Management (AIM) and Aryans Business School for Women (ABSW) from the current academic session (2009-10).

The necessary approvals have already been obtained from the regulating bodies like AICTE, Government of Punjab etc. The Group is already running three Management Institutions namely Aryans Business School (ABS), Aryans School of Management (ASM) and Aryans Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT) in Village Nepra (Banur), Chandigarh-Patiala Highway, Near Chandigarh. The group started its operations in 2007.

Giving this Information to the Press in the Press Conference on Thursday Aryans Group Chairman, Anshu Kataria said Aryans Institutes of Management (AIM) and Aryans Business School for Women (ABSW) would offer full time MBA Programme with intake of 60 Seats each. Out of the above seats two third seats are to be filled through MET and one third through management quota. The counselling for the two third MET seats is already going on in the Punjabi University, Patiala. The candidates interested for MBA admission in above institutes may contact on free helpline i.e. 98762-9988

Kataria added that Aryans Institute of Management (AIM) would focus on entrepreneurship skills. The institute would try to produce the job providers and not the job seekers. He said that with ongoing meltdown, placement scenario in the world is worsening. On the other hand students are still looking for job and nobody think of starting up their own venture.

ABSW would focus on the empowerment of women by providing management training and education to women. This would be a small step towards raising the level of education for women and making them self-sufficient, he added.

The press conference was also addressed by Dr. Parveen Kataria, Director General, Prof. D C Kataria, Vice Chairman, Dr. D P Singh, Director, Dr.A.S.Balgir, Director & Dr. Manjit Kalra, Director.

PATIALA : On the Call given by United Forum of Bank Unions comprising of Nine Unions including AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, NOBW, INBOC, NOBO having strength of more than 10 lacs of Employees and Officers commenced two days Strike from Thursday.

Banking business was paralyzed in total among all Nationalised and Private Banks. Clearing Houses remained closed. Cheques and other transactions worth thousands of crores rupees remained suspended resulting into hault of banking business. A rally was held before State Bank of Patiala, Head Office, Patiala at 10.00 a.m. and a powerfull demonstration was held thereafter a procession was taken out through main bazaars of the city.

Addressing the rally Com.N.K.Gaur, Vice President, AIBEA and General Secretary, Punjab Bank Employees Fedn. Stated that it is unfortunate and unprecedented that for the first time in the history of Bipartism the IBA has not only backed out of their agreed offers rather have changed their stand four times during last week. The Offer of one more option for Pension and Package of compensation in lieu of Compassionate appointments has also been withdrawn. Employees are in anger and UFBU will not only decide further course of action rather steps will have to be taken to force IBA to talk reasonable. When wages of the employees of Central Govt. and other sectors have already been revised the overdue settlement is being knowing fully delayed.

CHANDIGARH: Terming the cut in prices of Petroleum Products as “cruel joke” with consumers, Shiromani Akali Dal General Secretary Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra said this reduction is “insufficient and mere a eyewash” in comparison of heavy slump in crude oil prices in the international market. In a press statement released, here on Saturday, Prof. Chandumajra alleged that the Congress led Union Government was playing in the hands of giant and multi national companies instead of watching the common man interests. He alleged that UPA Government in the center has betrayed the people of the country by not to adequate cut in petroleum products costs as it promised in the Parliament to link these costs with crude oil prices in the international market. He said that Petroleum Products prices in the country are still hovering when in international market the crude oil prices are slumped to $39 per barrel from $148. Prof, Chandumajra charged that costs of Petroleum Products in the country are not being reduced according to crude oil price index so that giant Petroleum Companies can make huge profits and in return give the big amounts to the Congress Party as election fund legally and under the table. He said this is the only reason that despite of heavy and persistence falls in crude oil prices in international market the oil prices are, even now, flying high in the domestic market. The Akali leader also demanded a high level probe in the dubious figures, projected by domestic Petroleum Companies and on pretext of which the Union Government make a slight reduction the costs, by a joint committee comprising Members of Parliament and economic experts. He said that the figurer of 100 crores as a deficit mentioned by the oil companies is in contradiction with their annual reports depicting the hefty profits.”In reply to a question; the Union Government had itself presented the data showing profit to the Oil Companies in the Parliament”, he claimed.Chandumajra suggested that the experts should also analyze the reasons due to which the refining costs per liter in India are much higher than those in the other countries; that too while we invite foreign investment stressing that the lobour in India is much cheaper as compared to the other countries. It is obvious that the Oil Companies are manipulating the figures whenever and wherever it suits them. The Akali leader mentioned that during the financial year 2006-07 the Union Government earned Rs. 93 lac crores on account of sales tax on Petroleum Products; and during the financial year 2007-08 this collection is increased to Rs. one lac crore. It is pertinent to mention here that the total collection in the country from sale tax is 4 lacs crore during the preceding year. Prof. Chandumajra sharply criticized the Central Government for its total failure to control inflation and to protect the interests of the common man, which is its moral and constitutional duty. He said that the United Progressive Alliance has no moral right to remain in power.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Police arrested 10 people on Saturday who they said were behind bomb attacks which killed at least 45 people in Ahmedabad last month.

Police said one of those arrested, Abu Bashir, was the mastermind of the bombings and that all the suspects were active members of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

“As of information we have right now, he is the mastermind of the blasts (and) this network is the brains behind the blasts,” senior police officer P. C. Pande told a news conference in Ahmedabad.

At least 16 bombs exploded in Ahmedabad on July 26, a day after another set of blasts in Bangalore killed a woman. Three days later, several unexploded bombs were found in the town of Surat, in Gujarat.

A little-known group called the “Indian Mujahideen” had claimed responsibility for the Ahmedabad attacks. But Pande said Indian Mujahideen was just “another identity” for SIMI.

SIMI, a Muslim group, has been blamed by police for almost every major bomb attack in India, including explosions on commuter trains in Mumbai two years ago which killed 187 people.

Bashir, 30, was arrested in Lucknow.

“We were on his lookout for the past several days ever since we were tipped off about his presence in Uttar Pradesh,” Brij Lal, a senior state police official, told Reuters in Lucknow.

Ahmedabad is the main city in the communally sensitive and relatively wealthy state of Gujarat, scene of deadly riots in 2002 in which 2,500 people are thought to have died, most of them Muslims killed by rampaging Hindu mobs.

WordPress 2.3.3 released

The process of upgradation continues and can’t be limited.

In the similar context, the WordPress blog just revealed that WordPress 2.3.3 is out, and it is supposed to be an “urgent security release.”

What it is about:

A flaw was found in our XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow any valid user to edit posts of any other user on that blog.
Honestly I think that these constant security updates are starting to get cumbersome. The good thing is that this time and can update only the xmlrpc.php file.
Finally, there is also a bug on the WP-Forum plugin which is already being exploited, so check the upgrade if you use that plugin on your blog.

One can easily download WordPress 2.3.3 from wordpress website.
